I've started playing the PS4 release of the original Dead Rising, having been tempted for months but finally pushed over the edge by a sub-£10 sale price.
I played the hell out of this on 360. I got all but one achievement - the nails-hard Saint, which requires you to save every survivor in the mall - and poured ridiculous time into it (up to 14 hours in a sitting for one achievement). It's been years, but I still remember the best places for weapons and the good healing items, and where to pick up bonus PP.
When I last played it, however, I was level 50 and had unlocked maximum health, inventory capacity and all the combat moves. I'm being reckless, skipping past save points and understocking on health. I'd forgotten just how awful the survivors' sense of self-preservation is, and have lost all but three of my companions so far. I've been killed at least once by every psycho I've found.
But it's not a game entirely compatible with a toddler - even aside from concerns about the game's content, it requires a level of moment-to-moment focus that isn't possible with a 13-month-old wandering in front of the TV at random intervals.
So I'm not getting through it particularly fast, but I'm having fun while I do. I've accepted that this first run is a levelling farm, so I've been trying not to get too worked up about following the story all the way through, or saving every survivor I come across, or killing every psycho.
