My mum had a Mac for years, which meant there were very few decent games I could play when I was a kid. I remeber we had an American family friend who used to babysit us, who brought back C&C, Civ 2, and Myst from the States for our Mac - so those three are firmly lodged in my nostalgia-tin. (Relatedly, I remember thinking it was so cool that our babysitter stayed up till 4a.m., long after we had gone to bed, playing a computer game - although I dread to think of how many hours of my life I've lost to Civ 3 as a result of her influence). I'd asked her to get C&C, because I remember watching my friend play it at his house when I was about 7, and I'd never come across computer games more complicated than 'Mario is Missing' before then and was amazed at what they could be. Of course, when Leslie brought it back from the States, it didn't actually work on my mum's Mac (it needed a PowerMac, I think), so it was still a few years before I finally got to play C&C.
However, after much badgering, I convinced my mum of the necessity to switch to Windows, and so we finally got a PC when I was about 10 or 11 (I think) - and it came with a bunch of games, including Jazz Jackrabbit 2 and G-Police. The latter I have hardly ever heard of since, but since the computer came with a joystick, I loved it. Anyone else played it?
Then there was all the shareware that came on MacFormat discs that my mum occasionally picked up - one of which I rediscovered years later, in the form of Escape Velocity (and its sequels, Override and Nova), which now follows me onto every new computer I buy.
I think that's enough nostalgia for one evening! Anyone else played much of any of the above?
