Six degrees

Ewan McGregor was in The Men who Stare at Goats with George Clooney;
George Clooney was in Burn after Reading with J.K. Simmons;
J.K. Simmons was in Megamind with Brad Pitt;
Brad Pitt was in Troy with Peter O’Toole;
Peter O’Toole was in Lawrence of Arabia with Sir Alec Guinness.

I lucked out being able to use J.K. Simmons to expand the George Clooney to Brad Pitt loop there when I realized I was going too fast.

Edit: Whoops, I need a new one. Alright, how about sticking with Star Wars and linking Hayden Christensen to James Earl Jones without Star Wars.

Gah, another that could be done in less steps! Just want to do it because it got skipped over. Okay, let’s see:

Ian Holm was in From Hell with Johnny Depp
Depp was in Alice in Wonderland with Alan Rickman
Rickman was in Die Hard with Bruce Willis
Willis was in Ocean’s Twelve (uncredited, but obviously there) with Don Cheadle
Cheadle was in Captain America: Civil War with Martin Freeman

Continuing on with Kaffis’ Hayden Christensen to James Earl Jones with no Star Wars.

Ian Holm was in Garden State with Natalie Portman
who was in V For Vendetta with Roger Allam
who was in The Thick Of It with Alex MacQueen
who was in Cabin Pressure with Benedict Cumberbatch
who was in Sherlock with Martin Freeman

…assuming semi-obscure but wonderful Radio 4 sit-coms count? I actually had to expand it out a bit, because Allam and Cumberbatch were in Cabin Pressure together, and in honour of the People With Names That Sound Like Supervillains game, let’s try Callista Flockhart to Russell Crowe.

Oh, and I want to do this one too, simply because I can do it entirely in my head:

Sean Connery was in The Avengers (not Marvel’s) with Ralph Fiennes
Fiennes was in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire with Warwick Davis
Davis was in Willow with Val Kilmer
Kilmer was in Batman Forever with Nicole Kidman
Kidman was in The Golden Compass with Daniel Craig

Please continue on with your regularly scheduled Six Degrees.

Hayden Christensen was in Jumper with Samuel L. Jackson
Jackson was in Wanted with James McAvoy
McAvoy was in Gnomeo & Juliet with Jason Statham
Statham was in The Expendables 2 with Arnold Schwarzenegger
Schwarzenegger was in Conan the Barbarian with James Earl Jones

Continuing with Rodafowa’s Calista Flockhart to Russell Crowe.

Calista Flockhart was in The Birdcage with Hank Azaria
Azaria was in America’s Sweethearts with Larry King
King was in Ghostbusters with Sigourney Weaver
Weaver was in The Village with Joaquin Phoenix
Phoenix as in Gladiator with Russell Crowe

Next, up and coming child/teen actors: Asa Butterfield to Levi Miller

Callista Flockhart is in Ally McBeal with Lucy Liu
Lucy Liu is in Lucky Number Slevin with Bruce Willis
Bruce Willis is in Pulp Fiction with Samuel L Jackson
Samuel L Jackson is in Avengers: Age of Ultron with Paul Bettany
Paul Bettany is in A Beautiful Mind with Russell Crowe

Evil robots: James Spader to Robert Patrick.

James Spader was in The Watcher with Keanu Reeves
Reeves was in The Replacements with Rhys Ifans
Ifans was in Serena with Jennifer Lawrence
Lawrence was in The Hunger Games Josh Hutcherson
Hutcherson was in Bridge to Terabithia with Robert Patrick

Sticking with Asa Butterfield to Levi Miller.

I do love seeing favorite movies of mine pop up in these. Especially when they’re obscure/culty. My estimation of peoples’ tastes goes way up when I see them reference The Replacements, or Lucky Number Sleven, for instance.

Not to mention, I’m super-pleased that COMaestro routed through Conan to get James Earl Jones, or that bruitist’s Paul Bettany link finally put to rest why the Vision looked so familiar to me and the name rung a bell (but not so naggingly so that I had to look it up at the time) in Age of Ultron.

I purposefully started with the Conan link simply because of Conan.

Oh and:

This may need to be disqualified, as McGregor was OBVIOUSLY a Jedi in The Men Who Stare at Goats and the rules said no Star Wars links.

You’re just too good! I usually play to get the shortest possible chain too, but rules are rules

Asa Butterfield was in Ender’s Game with Harrison Ford
Ford was in Star Wars IV with Kenny Baker
Baker was in Labyrinth with David Bowie
Bowie was in The Prestige with Hugh Jackman
Jackman was in Pan with Levi Miller

Hmm… something different… Quentin Tarantino to Paul Rudd via at least one Matt.

Quentin Tarantino is in From Dusk Till Dawn with George Clooney
George Clooney is in Ocean’s Eleven with Matt Damon
Matt Damon is in Dogma with Alan Rickman
Alan Rickman is in Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy with Martin Freeman
Martin Freeman is in Captain America: Civil War with Paul Rudd

That took a while as I struggled to think of a Matt!

Inspired by this new rules idea: Richard E Grant to Paul McGann - no Withnail & I, but you must use Spice World.

Paul McGann is in Doctor Who with Eric Roberts
who is in The Dark Knight with Gary Oldman
who is in True Romance with Brad Pitt
who is in Fight Club with Meat Loaf
who is in Spice World with Richard E. Grant

I was trying to go via Sly Stallone and Arnold Schwarzenegger for a while but couldn’t get that below 7.

So! Let’s have Stallone to Schwarzenegger not using The Expendables but including The Princess Bride.

I cannot believe I managed this. And I only had to use IMDB to check Stallone and Buscemi were in the same Spy-Kids film…

Sylvester Stallone is in Spy-Kids 3D with Steve Buscemi
Steve Buscemi is in Monsters Inc with Billy Crystal
Billy Crystal is in The Princess Bride with Wallace Shawn
Wallace Shawn is in Clueless with Alicia Sylverstone
Alicia Sylverstone is in Batman & Robin with Arnold Schwarzenegger

Sticking with Batman-related: Uma Thurman to Margot Robbie using no DC films.

Margot Robbie is in Focus with Will Smith
who is in Men In Black with Rip Torn
who is in Dodgeball with Justin Long
who is in Die Hard With A Vengeance with Bruce Willis
who is in Pulp Fiction with Uma Thurman

Chris Evans to Robert Downey Jr. using no comic adaptations.

Jesus, has Chris Evans been in anything else? I count five different films/franchises this excludes …

Does that include graphic novels?

Yes, so no Scott Pilgrim or Snowpiercer I’m afraid.

Chris Evans is in Not Another Teen Movie with Lacey Chabert
Lacey Chabert is in The Wild Thornberrys with Tim Curry
Tim Curry is in The Shadow with Ian McKellen
Ian McKellen is in The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug with Stephen Fry
Stephen Fry is in Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows with Robert Downey Jr

I can’t believe I’ve managed to use The Shadow twice in this thread :sunglasses: (And while there have been Shadow comics, that’s not where it originated.)

As I didn’t end up using Mean Girls: Rachel McAdams to Lindsay Lohan.
